Far Eastern Federal University

– Established Year & History

Far Eastern Federal University has a rich and evolving history that reflects more than a century of academic excellence. Its origins date back to 1899, when the Oriental Institute was established in Vladivostok by a decree of Tsar Nicholas II, making it the first higher education institution in the Russian Far East.

Initially, the institute focused on training specialists in Asian languages, politics, and economics to support Russia’s engagement with neighboring countries. Over time, it expanded and transformed into the State Far Eastern University in 1920 through the merger of several institutions.

During the Soviet era, the university underwent several reforms, closures, and restorations, reflecting the changing educational landscape. It was re-established in 1956 and continued to grow with new faculties, research centers, and infrastructure developments.

The modern form of the university emerged in 2010, when it was officially restructured as Far Eastern Federal University through the merger of four major institutions, aiming to create a leading educational and research hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

Today, FEFU stands as a symbol of academic heritage blended with modern innovation, continuing its legacy on a global stage.

For the entire 6-year MBBS program, the total cost typically falls between ₹30–35 lakhs, depending on lifestyle and additional expenses like food and personal needs.

Eligibility Creteria

To secure admission in the MBBS (General Medicine) program at Far Eastern Federal University, students must meet a set of basic academic and regulatory requirements. Applicants should have successfully completed their 10+2 education or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects. A strong academic background in these subjects is essential to cope with the medical curriculum.

For Indian students, qualifying the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is mandatory, as per medical regulations in India. While the university itself does not impose a strict NEET score cutoff, a valid NEET qualification is required to pursue the course and to practice medicine in India later.

Additionally, candidates must submit essential documents such as a valid passport and academic certificates, which should be translated into English or Russian if required.

The admission process may also include entrance assessments in Biology and Chemistry, conducted in English. Importantly, prior knowledge of the Russian language is not required, as the entire program is taught in English.
